Olu Butterfly, Co-founding Director of Poetry for the People Baltimore, Olu Butterfly Woods is co-producer and host of Organic Soul Tuesdays, a youth arts instructor and distinctive performance poet who has received a Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Award. Born in Nigeria, raised in St. Croix, V.I. and Maryland, she is author of an acclaimed collection of poetry, The Revenge of Dandelions. Olu Butterfly has toured internationally as a principal dancer with Sankofa Dance Theater, with the band Fertile Ground and independently, sharing the stage with multi-platinum or otherwise legendary artists such as The Digable Planets, The Last Poets, and Erykah Badu.
Femi the DriFish has been a professional spoken word artist and slam poet for more than 10 years. Best known as one half of the spoken word/Hip Hop-influenced duo, THE 5th L, Femi uses his artistry to encourage his listeners to discover their own unique voices and identities in his writings, performances, and teachings. The Drifish also partners with the University of Maryland’s Violence Prevention Program, using his words to address matters such as violence and bullying in our communities.
